Q. Will Sanctuary be having an online order component soon?
A. Although we are looking into this it will likely not come about 'soon'.
Q. Why does no one answer the phone at Sanctuary?
A. We feel that customers in the store deserve our full attention. Most calls to a business phone tend to be from suppliers trying to drum up more business, advertisers, charities, friends calling for staff, and other distractions that are better handled when one of our staff has time to return the calls. We do try to check messages 3 times per day and call back as quickly as possible.

Q. Can we rent costumes from Sanctuary?
A. Many people think we are a costume shop but we consider ourselves a haven for alternative fashion. So no, we do not rent costumes, props, or other items but you will find that the fine original designer clothing is well worth the price to buy.
Q. What hours is Sanctuary open for business?
A. Currently our hours are:
  • Mondays and Tuesdays: 11am to 6pm,
  • Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays: 11am to 7pm,
  • Saturdays: 11am to 6pm,
  • Sundays: noon to 5pm.
We are closed on most holidays for our own rest and sanity.

Q. Do you have customer parking?
A. Yes, we have 3 stalls for customers to use while shopping in the store. To keep them available for our customers, these stalls are monitored night and day by a towing company and any vehicle left in a stall without its owner in the store has a pretty good chance of being towed.
Q. Do you have a washroom I can use? (One of our most-asked questions).
A. This is an old industrial building that we have remodelled for our retail boutique. We do not have a washroom on the premises, not even for our staff. However, our neighborhood is plentiful in restaurants and bars that have washrooms for their patrons' use.

Q. What forms of payment do you accept?
A. You can pay for your purchase with
  • Cash
  • Debit card.
  • American Express, Mastercard, and Visa, WITH photo ID only.
  • Official Traveller's Cheques only, WITH photo ID.
    We do not accept any other type of cheques.

Q. Do you have Gift Certificates?
A. Yes, Gift Certificates are available in any amount and can be used on any purchase in the store. These Gift Certificates have an expiry date of one year after date of purchase and we cannot replace lost or stolen gift certificates, so don't hide them away.
Q. Can I put something 'on hold' to purchase later?
A. We will often hold an item till the end of the day for an interested customer but if you would like us to hold it longer you should consider our layaway option (see next question).

Q. What are your layaway terms?
A. You can arrange to layaway any items in the store by putting down 25% of its final price (including GST) and we will hold that item one month for you to come in and pay off the remaining balance. The person who makes the final payment must be listed on the layaway agreement and we may ask for photo ID.
Q. What is your return, exchange, and guarantee policy?
A. Due to the nature of all the curiosities that we carry our policy is strictly "All Sales Final", with no return or exchange privileges. Any product guarantees are the area of the manufacturer and Sanctuary cannot act as your agent with them. Do keep this in mind as you shop because we do not want you to buy something that you do not actually want.

Q. Why is the clothing section often chained off?
A. We keep the clothing room closed until someone requests to visit it. This allows our staff to work on other things, serve customers, and help in the front of the store. If a staff member does not notice that you are interested in viewing the clothes please just ask and one of us and will be happy to take you in and show you around.

Q. Why do you make visitors leave bags, food, and drinks at the front counter?
A. It is in everyone's best interest. We have had people drip hot dog juices onto products, spill their coffee into our incense display, knock over fragile items with their bags and backpacks, and a host of other incidents. We truly appreciate your keen support in this sometimes-difficult task and thank you for respecting Sanctuary.
